I have found my own Nirvana and it's in Nirvana!
I have recently discovered my love for this band and Kurt Cobain, the most beautiful man to have ever walked on this planet. A man who made mistakes, like any other human being, like marrying Courtney Love, in falling into drugs and perhaps killing himself (my own opinion is that Cuntney Love, the psycho bitch, killed him). I wish to one day write music as amazing as Kurt did, the meanings behind some of his songs can be constantly debated. I have the album Nevermind in flesh and blood but the others I must sadly listen to on the Internet and it's definitely not the same. I am upset over the fact that CD's and vinyl are rarely heard of in my generation, I must be an odd casualty. But my mother believes I'm an 'old soul' I don't believe in those spiritual things like she does.
I have always loved music, I grew up listening to AC/DC, Aerosmith (thanks to mom) and the White Stripes and Nirvana (thanks to Dad) but during my youth *cough cough* a few years ago, I only heard the song Smells Like Teen Spirit and that was the end of my Nirvana knowledge. My father would blast it in the car and after that I only heard it a few times.
I then developed my own tastes, starting with Hedley and the All-American rejects in elementary school, then to Green Day, Foxboro Hot Tubs, the Network, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, The Ramones in grade 8 and now I listen to all those bands previously listed from grade 8 in addition to Pansy Division, Falling Girl, the Hollywood Kills, the Pretty Reckless, Lipstick Homicide, Nirvana, Emily's Army, Bikini Kill, Babes in Toyland, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Murderdolls, 4-Non Blondes, Pinhead Gunpowder, Queen (occasionally), Foo Fighters, and I think that's it, If I think of more I'll do another post but the point is, my love for music has always been present and it's thanks to my parents. I'm sure kids out there who love their music as much as me and it didn't come fromt their parents adoration for it, or the way they were raised. Maybe it's just what they ehard from other people, or it's their rebellious outlet, but either or, I discovered my passion from the 'rents.
Now I plan on taking my love to a new level and getting electric guitar lessons, I've already been told i sing well and i enjoy it quite allot and now wish to start my own band. I've been writing since i was 8, and started writing lyrics when I was eleven, (I'm 13 now).
But the three most influential bands in my small life who brought on led me on to better things, who rought knowledge and passion to my small brain, who made me think and reflect and dance and laugh (in order) were; Hedley, then Green Day (who opened my eyes to punk and not just the mainstream stuff) and Nirvana (who opened my eyes to grunge and Riot Grrrl).
Thank You for reading
